Level Design
Unity HDRP
This game was made to fit the topic of proposing a question and making a game that speaks to it/ answers it. The question that I wanted to delve deeper into and research was how martial artists were able to be so highly athletic and jump high distances and run fast. This was due to the breathing techniques they practised that allowed the flow of oxygen into the lower body allowing greater performance. This game uses this as a mechanic where the player constantly has decaying speed and movement. They can press a button which freezes them still in place allowing them to “breathe” and regain their maximum speed. Whilst using this mechanic, the player needs to navigate and parkour through and across the houses in this hilly town to reach the top of the hill where they can receive a katana.
Making this game allowed me to explore level design. Using assets from the Unity store, I was able to put together a game with beautiful scenery and buildings placed at the right locations to enable the player to use the mechanic to be able to make a correct jump. There are blue lights which lead the player to the correct path. Halfway through the level, the level design ensures that the player has a "checkpoint" where even if they fail a jump, they will not have to restart the whole level.
